Auroa

                               Mr. Heath Chittenden principal@auroa.school.nz

Principal
Hi my name is Heath Chittenden and I was appointed as the principal of Auroa   School in Term 4 2009. Previous to Auroa I have taught in schools in Hawera and Wanganui for the past 8 years. I have a real passion to see students   succeed at Auroa School. My own curriculum passions are writing and ICT. I   believe it is important to be enthusiastic, motivated and passionate about   teaching. At Auroa school I set high expectations for all students and staff.   All children should be challenged to achieve their own personal best. I   believe in providing students with the opportunity to progressively take   responsibility for their own learning. By being a positive person I can   provide an atmosphere for learners where they feel happy and confident in a   collaborative learning environment. I value the contributions that our   community provide and take pride in providing supportive, collaborative   relationships with other students, staff and parents.
Outside   of school I am married with three young daughters and one son. I have a small farmlet, and play a variety of sports. I have represented Taranaki and Wanganui in   provincial cricket and am a keen soccer player and golfer.

Mrs Shelley Berry
Junior Team Leader
Room   8 - NE - Year 2
Hi my name is Shelley Berry and I’ve been teaching for 8 years. I grew up in Marton, but have spent the last 11 years in Wellington. I completed my Psychology Major and Diploma of Primary Teaching there. My first four years were spent teaching at Karori Normal School, and the last four years were at Owhiro Bay School, where I was acting Deputy Principal. During my 8 years I have taught levels NE through to year 6. I am passionate about teaching and learning. My goal is to have children enjoy school and be switched onto learning through motivating them, and encouraging them to follow their interests. I understand that learning can be challenging for some students, and I always endeavour to teach in a way that suits their learning style. I have spent three years as a Reading Recovery teacher. It is this experience that gave me a real love for junior reading. Making progress with the children is what spurs me to be a teacher! Sport has been a big part of my life since childhood. I started Smallbore Rifle Shooting when I was 12 and have been in the New Zealand Junior and Ladies Teams. I represented New Zealand at the Oceania Games in 2001. I have also played hockey on and off over the years, and I am a terrible surfer; but I am working on this! Art and dance are also keen interests of mine. I am married, and have a 1 year old son. My family and I have moved to South Taranaki for a lifestyle change. I am super excited to have gained a position teaching at Auroa School. I look forward to meeting you and your whanau!

Mrs Kelly Cocker

Room   2 - Year 6/7
Hi, I’m Kelly Cocker and I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Auroa School Team.
I grew up in Hawera and then moved to Palmerston North to get my Diploma in Teaching and Bachelor of Education.  I started my career in Palmerston North and went on to teach in Woodville, Feilding and Bulls.  I have approximately 10 years experience.  I love teaching and the variety that comes with it.  Being able to make a difference in the lives of so many children is truly rewarding.  Throughout my teaching career I have had a lot of opportunities which included being a Year 5 & 6 team leader and leading a Maths Team.
I have two children.  Sophie will turn 4 in February and Jack is 2 ½.  Life with two toddlers is very busy but amazing at the same time.  Sophie and Jack go to Kids Barn in Hawera and absolutely love it.
My spare time is usually spent with Sophie and Jack.  We try to get out and about as much as possible.  I enjoy going for walks and I played social netball last Winter.  I also love shopping!
